Let me start by saying I'm not a business man, I'm an animal lover who is happy to care for peoples pets when they are unable to. How difficult can it be to do what I do without a college course in Business Management. Apparently more than I know since numerous times I have been taken advantage of by me trusting people.
With that being said, if you book with me for 3 days or less, I will ask for the payment up front. I do take just about any form of payment including PayPal, Venmo, Cash App, Skrill, etc...of course cash is always king, but I will also take checks. For any stay longer than 3 days I will require that you pay a deposit equal to half the cost of your pets stay with me, you can pay me the other half when you drop them off.
In the past I allowed owners who asked if someone besides themselves can pick up their pets, which I allowed, but to many times the pet/pets were never picked up and I was never paid for my services. That's why I require a payment up front. It's a huge burden on me to have to find those pets good loving homes as I will not just take them to the animal shelter and give them up for adoption. Then I'm not only responsible for their care even longer I'm responsible for all of their needs.
Another problem that has occurred a few times and that is dogs, cats, parrots, llama's, etc.. I'm caring for have taken it upon themselves to customize my furniture, clothes, shoes, etc.. I found out the hard way that business pet insurance does not pay for damage done to your property if it's done by one of the pets under your care. I will always ask you before taking responsibility for your pet if it has any habits like chewing the metal wheel off of my desk chair, using my doorways for scratching posts, finding that of all the toys I make available for your pets to play with, they find my sneakers much more to their liking. If they destroy it, you replace it.
Just remember even if I forget to ask you about their habits, If you agree to have me caring for your pet you should understand that if your pet causes damage to my home, property or myself or any pet that I may be caring for at the same time as yours, you will be responsible for said damages. There are no exclusions, there's no gray area, if your pet causes damage you are financially responsible for those damages. If your pet harms another dog even if they are just playing, you will pay the vet bill. This has never happened but if I was negligent or preoccupied and something happens then I will pay the bill. Like I said that has never happened because I am very watchful when it comes to caring for your pet.
I do not and will not care for dangerous or unruly dogs. I won't care for dogs that bark constantly, this includes excessive whining. I expect whining the first 24 hours or so until the pet becomes more acclimated to their surrounds but I can't allow it for 5 days straight if that's how long your booking is. I will ask you before I book you if your pet is friendly towards other animals and if they are house broken/trained. If you say yes, I will believe you. I understand accidents now and then but if it's a constant issue and it's happening during the course of your booking, you understand that I will no longer care for that pet.
Deposits: Deposits are intended to secure you for a booking, nothing more.
Refunds: Depending on the circumstances I will tell you if you are eligible for a refund. How you pay me will determine how quickly you will receive your refund. If you pay me by Venmo or some other payment processor know that I don't leave money in those accounts and I transfer those funds to my bank so they are not readily available, it takes a minimum of 2 business days for me to get the money back into my account and it could be up to 8 business days before you receive your refund. It depends on the bank and when they release the money to me. I have auto sweep turned on so any money in my payment processors account is sent to my bank nightly. Unless you pay with cash, I cannot promise how long the refund will take.
I give the dogs a couple of days to become adjusted to a new and potentially first place they've been outside of their own home or not often, but when I've given them a couple of days and they act in the same manner then all bets are off. If your pets constantly have 'accident's', barks when a car drives by, just doesn't behave anything like you have previously told me, I will no longer care for that pet/pets and the rest of the money you paid me after you dropped the pet/pets off to me is not refundable. If you can't be honest with me then I don't want or need your business.
If you pay for your deposit in cash, you will receive it the same day you request it, as long as you pick it up. If you decide after the 3 days of your booking date that you are no longer going to utilize my services, unless you have a good reason for cancelling, you will forfeit that deposit, simply because you narrowed my ability to back fill the opening. I have provided a refund to everyone that has cancelled and wanted a refund and now I can't do so if you can't adhere to the policy. Every situation is different and I'm not looking to keep someone's money if I don't provide them the services they booked for. Like I said earlier, by cancelling your booking with me 2 days prior to your date, you have taken away the ability for me to back fill your now open spot. Know you will not receive a refund. Same with shortened bookings, if you don't give me notice, I may not be able to backfill your opening. It's not a perfect solution but what is these days.
If you decide to book with me great, I promise that I will do everything I can and usually much more to make your pets stay the most pleasant they can ask for. I will provide the best care that your pet will ever experience and I want the same experience. If you want to bring a kennel, in certain situations I'm okay with it but personally I don't do kennels, many times those are used when owners can't control their pet. If you have a kennel and want your pet in the kennel most of their stay, call someone else. If you need the kennel because you can't control your pet, get him training and I do not train dogs.
I know I may lose customers because of these policies, but the ones that know me and know how I treat their dogs and how their dogs react to me when they see me, know the and the service I provide and the value that I provide and that is nothing but pure love and the dogs know it.
