Let me start by saying I'm not a businessman, I'm an animal lover who is happy to care for people’s pets when they are unable to. How difficult can it be to do what I do without a college course in Business Management. Apparently more than I know, numerous times I have been taken advantage of by me trusting people.
If you book with me, then you agree to my policies. I will ask you up front if your pet or pets get along with other pets and people. I will also ask if they are house broken or if they have any habits, I should be aware of, like do they have a habit of tearing things up. I believe in the honor system so if you tell me they are fine with other pets and people, are house broken, do not tear the home apart, then I believe you. However, if I find out different after you drop the pet off, do not be surprised if I ask you to come back and pick up your pet. I do not care for mean or unruly pets, they either behave or please find someone else to care for them.
Up to date shots and vaccinations are required, again, I believe in the honor system, and I will not require you to provide me proof, but I do ask that you have those records available for review.
If you book with me and it is for 3 days or less, I will ask for the payment up front on the day of booking, it is non-refundable. I do this because I limit how many pets I care for at one time, if you cancel you have either taken away my ability to try to fill that slot or I've already turned other people down for your same spot and they found someone else to care for their pets. Either way I would lose out on my ability to make money.
If you do book with me but it could be days or weeks out before I begin caring for your pets, I guarantee that we will be able to accommodate your pet or pets but in order to do so I require half of the pets stay as a guarantee that you will not cancel the booking, that also is non-refundable. The same logic applies; I can very well lose business due to my inability to backfill that spot. There are extenuating circumstances and I would be happy to listen to yours and if I feel it is warranted, I will issue a refund or possibly a partial refund, but that is at my discretion.
I also do require payment in full prior to me providing my services, so this means that when you drop your pet or pets off, I do require that you pay the remainder of your balance.
I do take just about any form of payment including PayPal, Venmo, Cash App, Skrill, etc... of course cash is always king, but I will also take checks. I will not accept cahiers checks or money orders.
If you do not pick your pet up at the scheduled time or date you may be required to pay additional costs if we have not discussed it. And on the off chance you do not pick up your pet, and we have not discussed it, I will give you 3 days to claim your pet otherwise I will take it to Midlands Humane Society or Nebraska Humane Society, whatever organization I can find that can accommodate your pet. I will try my best to find a no-kill shelter, but it is not my responsibility to care for your pet if you have abandoned it in my care.
Another issue that has occurred a few times is dogs, cats, parrots, llamas, etc. That I'm caring for have taken it upon themselves to customize my furniture, clothes, shoes, etc. I found out the hard way that business pet insurance does not pay for damage done to your property if it's done by one of the pets under my care. As mentioned previously I will always ask you before taking responsibility for your pet if it has any habits like chewing the metal wheel off of my desk chair, using my doorways for scratching posts, finding that of all the toys I make available for your pets to play with have been destroyed, those items are expensive and expensive to replace, if they destroy it, you replace it. Just remember even if I forget to ask you about their habits, If you agree to have me caring for your pet you should understand that if your pet causes damage to my home, property or myself or any pet that I may be caring for at the same time as yours, you will be responsible for said damages. There are no exclusions, there's no gray area, if your pet causes damage you are financially responsible for those damages. If your pet harms another dog even if they are just playing, you will pay the vet bill. This has never happened but if I was negligent or preoccupied and something happened then I would pay the bill. Like I said, that has never happened because I am very mindful and watchful when it comes to caring for your pet.
I give your pets a couple of days to become adjusted to a new environment and potentially the first place they've been outside of their own home or not often, but when I've given them a couple of days and they act in a manner that is detrimental to myself or other pets in my care, then all bets are off. If your pets constantly have 'accident's', barks when a car drives by, just doesn't behave anything like you have previously told me, I will no longer care for that pet/pets and ask you to come pick them up and the money you paid me after you dropped the pet/pets off to me is not refundable. Honesty is a beautiful thing, and I understand a new environment and separation anxiety but there’s a difference between those behaviors and normal behavior and I have done this long enough to know the difference.
Cats are cats, they are unpredictable when it comes to staying in a new home or environment, it is not unusual that I don't see your cats for 2 or 3 days as they are hiding. I most often sleep on my couch in my living room and about the only time I will see them is late at night or early in the morning when they venture out to see if it is safe. So, if you contact me and ask me how your cats are doing and I say fine, but I haven't seen them, it's not unusual. But if you look at my photo gallery, you will see after time they all come out and just become part of the extended family of pets I may be caring for.
If you decide to book with me great, I promise that I will do everything I can and usually much more to make your pets stay the most pleasant they can ask for. I believe I will provide the best care that your pet will ever experience, and I want the same experience. If you want to bring a kennel, in certain situations I'm okay with it, if your pets need medication, I'm accustomed to that, the moral of the story is I can almost accommodate you in most ways, you just need to ask.
I know I may lose customers because of these policies, but the ones that know me and know how I treat their pets and how their pets react to me when they see me, know the service I provide and the value that I provide and that is nothing but pure love and the pets know it.
If you agree to these terms I will be happy to care for your pet. Also, going forward, I will be asking you to sign a copy of this agreement upon booking either electronically or in person.
